Manufacturing Automation Engineer

Job Summary: The Manufacturing Automation Engineer (MAE) designs, implements, debugs, tests, documents, and maintains a variety of software applications related to the manufacturing operation in Bedford.  The software includes applications that interface into automated manufacturing equipment including barcode readers, RFID readers, cameras, PLC controllers, and other serial/USB interfaces.  The MAE is also responsible for the support and ongoing development of an intranet website and several customer-facing web portals with MS SQL backend applications.

Essential Functions:

  • Responsible for the ongoing support of an existing array of software applications used to control the manufacturing operation in Bedford.  The majority of the applications are multi-threaded VB.NET interfacing into automated manufacturing equipment and a variety of MS SQL databases.
  • The position is also responsible for the design and development of new manufacturing applications as the need arises.
  • Responsible for the development, enhancement, and maintenance of multiple web portals using Microsoft ASP.NET, Visual Studio, and MS SQL.
  • Write, debug, and optimize parameterized SQL Stored Procedures, Views, and Functions.
  • Work with the IT team to analyze and resolve network issues between the web portals, databases, and applications.
  • Communicate with users to gather and document requirements for application features and enhancements.  Capable of taking input from non-technical users, interpreting it, and designing and implementing functional applications and web pages.
  • Demonstrate a high level of analytical skills by being able to troubleshoot and document complex problems, collaborating with other team members as needed.
  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritize tasks and manage their time to achieve deadlines throughout the software development life cycle.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelorís Degree, preferably in Computer Science, Engineering or related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
